As readers of this site may know, I am still very addicted to Mario Kart World. I’m not any good, though, and never have learned the routes for jumping up walls and such. No, I just play simple old knockout tour online, with one of the slowest-accelerating combos in the game, and sometimes have fun and other times get incredibly frustrated at how random and unfair this mostly great game can be.
Before I begin with the clips, though, for some background information, I mostly play as Rosalina on the Stellar Sled. This snowmobile perfectly fits her, but it’s the slowest-accelerating vehicle in the game, and Rosalina is a heavyweight character, which means that when I get hit I fall far behind, quickly. If I don’t get hit it’s a great combo for Knockout Tour’s long straight roads, but that’s always a big “if” in THIS chaos-filled game.
Additionally, if you hold down the Camera button on the Switch 2 controller, the console records a 30 second clip of the last 30 seconds. That’s the only built-in way to take videos, though, as these 30 second clips. I have thought about setting up a capture setup to be able to record actual gameplay from my TV but still haven’t done it, so these out of context clips will have to do for now to show what this game is like… at its worst, when I’m getting hit or lag is ruining games and I record the nonsense out of irritation. In some other games like Starcraft or Dead or Alive 6 I mostly record games I win, but this one it’s mostly the opposite; I do finish in the top four sometimes and once in a rare while actually win a tour, but you won’t see much of that here. These clips are mostly the other half of my games, the ones that go less well. There is a mix of stuff though, with some better moments.
Either way, hopefully these amuse or entertain. I only occasionally record clips, so despite having played several hundred hours of this game I’ve only got 23 recordings as of today. Also note that since these are all recorded by the Switch 2’s internal recorder, even though I have my Switch 2 outputting in 4k to my TV, these are only recorded in 1080p since that is what the system does. I’d need a capture setup in order to record full resolution videos.
The first video I recorded is this one, from October 2025. I play about as stupidly as you can and immediately get punished hard for it. It was very frustrating at the time but looking at it again, really, what was I expecting?
This is from December ’25. With this combo, getting hit near the end of a segment ends my race almost every time it happens.
Also from December, this race was particularly frustrating. How did that Spike pass me, I still don’t get it. I should have been in 4th here!
This is the last of the three December videos. Why is the lag in this game so bad sometimes? There is no other “explanation” for whatever happens in this video. Just tell me how I’m supposed to dodge the boomerang when the other player is kind of warping around like that…

This is from April ’26. I started recording more videos after this, most of my videos are from May and June. I don’t remember how this race ended, but this clip is pretty insane, I was so lucky!

This is the last of the videos from May ’26. Whew, it couldn’t be closer… getting hit late is REALLY bad with a low acceleration combo. Things like this happen often in MKW; I had two 20th place ‘just barely made it!’ rallies today, in fact. I also had one 21st place today, argh. Ah well, it happens.
And that’s 11 videos, just under half of what I have. The next 12 are all from June. I will upload those in a separate article another time.
