So, what have I been doing? Well, not a whole lot on the site for a while, clearly. I did start work on an update for the 1998 retrospective series a few weeks ago, but didn’t complete it. I need to get that done, it adds some nice improvements to those articles.
Another thing I have done is start updating the old articles on this site with double spacing after periods and fixes for broken images. I think this makes the articles look a lot better than they did before. Even if I’m the only one who cares about this, well, this is my site so I think it’s worth the time. There are a lot more articles to fix but at least I started on it.
And last but definitely not least, I decided to finally post some pretty old articles of mine on this site. These are things I wrote before I started this site but never put the work in to update and bring up to the standards of the work I did post on this site. I know that I did post my older reviews unaltered, but articles like these I thought needed work to repost, work I never did. However, as I have known for years, WordPress has a function to adjust the date articles claim to have been posted, so I finally decided to post these in largely their original form, dated to when I originally posted them online. The links to the new old articles are below, and they also will be added to the Table of Contents page of course.
These articles are from 2010 and earlier. I made updates to some of the articles, but not others. Either way on whether I added new parts to the articles, I decided to post them dated to when they were originally written. I’m sorry if some people dislike editing old things instead of reposting them with today’s date, but I think it is reasonable, most of all of these articles are as they were when written. None have been posted here before. You can find them from the links below or from the new months added to the bottom of the sidebar.
There are three main categories of things I am now posting: article-length posts, short-ish reviews I somehow forgot about and never posted here before for various reasons, and a few first impressions articles. I have never posted everything on this site that I write on forums, because some things make more sense in a forum context than here, but there are more worth posting than I did back in the early years of this site after creating it in 2010.
Articles: There were three particularly noteworthy articles I wrote between 2008 and 2010 that I never posted here:
Turrican: Remembering One of the Great Action Series (from Jan. 2008)
This article is a lightly edited and updated repost of an article I wrote in January 2008 for forums, Neogaf and others. I have long thought about this article, thought that it was good but needed work, and not posted it here, but I finally decided… well, it’s decent enough, I should post it. Even just a few years later I’m sure I’d have written two or three times more about these games, and I did expand it slightly in this version, but only slightly. Anyway, enjoy this fun look at one of the best action game series ever.
Quest for Glory Series Appreciation (from April 2008)
This article I left almost entirely identical to the original. It’s been way too long since I played QfG games, I really should change that; they’re some of the best!
What was the Downfall of the Golden Age of Retail Computer Gaming? An Attempted Analysis (from March 2010)
This article is one I have wanted to post on this site ever since I created it, but never did because I know how dated elements of it rapidly became. I finally decided that I want it here, so I posted it, with some light editing and an addendum at the end discussing my thoughts about how things have gone over the past 16 years. The announcement of Guild Wars 3 as a PC/console hybrid title, in particular, inspired me to post this more prominently on the internet again. What I discuss there, and in my 1998 retrospective series, is still happening.
Reviews:
Mega Turrican Review (Sega Genesis) (from September 2007)
The Turrican retrospective mentioned a review for this game I wrote back in 2007, but while checking I realized that I had never posted it here. This review is shorter and less detailed than my 2015 Game Opinion Summary about the title, but for completeness’ sake here it is.
TinStar Review (Super Nintendo) (from August 31, 2009)
Finding that Mega Turrican review reminded me of a bunch of reviews I posted on GameFAQs and Tendo City but somehow never posted here. They are all short, but so are the old reviews I did post here many years back, so… yeah, I should have posted these back then. This is another game I did cover here on a Game Opinion Summaries article, but this review has a bit more detail than that one does.
I will add more old writings soon. See this space, primarily for the rest of the missing old reviews and a few other things such as some little first impressions articles.
